My ‘Must-Have’ Whole Foods Shopping List

Ok, so you’ve decided to overhaul your diet. The last thing you need is to step foot into the grocery store with no clue what to buy. If frustration takes over, then suddenly you’ll look down and find all of the wrong items in your cart! Take a breath and be prepared by taking this ‘must-have’ shopping list with you the next time you head to the store. It’s not everything you’ll need to eat a well-balanced diet throughout your week, but these are some staples from my weekly trip to Whole Foods that will bring your eating to the next level of deliciousness!

Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter

Organic, grass-fed butter is a staple in my diet. I always make sure that I have some in my fridge: for coffee, vegetables, steaks, …everything! It’s filled with anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, butyrate, antioxidants, and other vitamins making it a shopping list must.

Bulletproof Cold Brew

We already know that I love this coffee and it’s always helpful to have a backup in the fridge. This butter-filled coffee with Brain Octane Oil helps with brain health and keeps you satiated throughout the morning. I’ve had many a morning where I’m running out of butter and can’t make my own (or when I’m running a few minutes behind), so a backup cold brew comes in handy to have around!

Artisana Raw Cashew Butter

This is my favorite nut butter and always in my kitchen cabinet! The reason I go for cashews is because the cashew nut has the best ratio of MUFA’s (monounsaturated fats) to PUFA’s (polyunsaturated fats). The cashew is also one of the least reactive nuts for people with sensitivities or autoimmune conditions. I pick Artisana because they make a RAW cashew butter. When the nut butter is roasted, it oxidizes the fats, making it kryptonite for your body.

Bulletproof Brian Octane Oil

A cabinet must have… Bulletproof’s Brain Octane Oil is mainly comprised of caprylic acid and converts into ketones more efficiently than coconut or other MCT oils that have Lauric Acid—and it produces 4x more ketones than coconut oil. Once you’re using ketones for energy, it’s easier for your body to burn stored fat, have more energy, and upgrade your brain!

Duck Eggs

I specifically buy duck eggs every week because I’m allergic to chicken eggs… BUT, fun fact… duck eggs are significantly more nutritious than chicken eggs. Duck eggs contain 9.6 grams of fat, compared to the average of 5 grams of fat in chicken eggs. Duck eggs are also higher in Omega-3 fatty acids - 71.4 milligrams vs 37 milligrams. If that’s not enough, duck eggs are even higher in protein than chicken eggs.

Grass-fed Ribeye Steak

This is a weekly MUST. Why red meat? Nutritional value. Red meat is one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. It’s loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and various other nutrients that can have profound effects on health. However, you only want to eat red meat that is grass-fed and finished. Conventional meat has significantly less nutritional value and potential antibiotics in it.

Grass-fed Ghee

Ok, I buy ghee for one reason… cooking. When a fat or oil is heated past its smoke point, it will start to break down and release free radicals into your food, causing tons of inflammation. Ghee has one of the highest oxidation points for any cooking oil (485° F). If I’m cooking at a lower temperature, (under 350° F), then I’ll go with coconut oil or extra-virgin olive oil.

Primal Kitchen Dressing

My latest obsession! Primal Kitchen products are unlike any others that you’ll find in the grocery store. The entire collection aims to satiate exquisitely with real, simple, exceptional ingredients—like avocado oil, collagen, oil of oregano and apple cider vinegar—that contain no dairy, gluten, grain, refined sugar or soy. Organic Broccoli 

This is the easiest thing to keep in the fridge for a quick steam and snack. I usually buy the prepackaged florets because they take the least amount of prep time. Just pull out the florets, steam for 4 minutes, smoother in butter and a squeeze of lemon… YUM!
